"Why do I coach soccer? I love seeing the players I coach work hard and improve at something they love. I have a passion for the game and want to help others learn more about what soccer can do for them; both on and off the soccer field."
QTSD© TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENT COACH
SUTTON FANSLER
PERSONAL MISSION:
To connect with soccer athletes; helping to build their confidence on and off the soccer field.
LIGHT BULB MOMENT:
A coach can make or break your view of the game. After being cut from my high school team (due to standing up for an ethical conflict), I started to lose my love for the game. At the same time, I was being recruited to play at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. The head coach at the time helped me re-fall in love with soccer (by showing how to care for your players; helping them feel valued). This is my inspiration when working with our QTSD© athletes. In every training session, I aim to create an experience that allows athletes to not just love soccer, but more importantly improve their self value as a player and person!
ONE THING I'D CHANGE IN SOCCER:
I would increase the inclusion of sports psychology to be implemented into youth, club, and HS soccer programs across the US. This often overlooked (but critical) part of development would allow kids to be better understood during their soccer journey. I have seen firsthand how the lack of dedication towards the mental state of younger athletes can adversely affect their complete development; both as players and people.
