QTSD ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PLAYER DEVELOPMENT & COACH EDUCATION

JAMES IGNEZCI

PERSONAL MISSION:

I want to influence and guide my athletes through the challenges of life using soccer as my mechanism.

LIGHT BULB MOMENT:

I want to be able to be a resource and an advisor to my athletes through soccer and life. Too often we hear of coaches that kill the love of the game. I didn't have one of those coaches until later in my playing career, but now realize that type of coach is very common. Soccer is a game. It's supposed to be fun. I hope to inspire competition, progress, and fun in my athletes.

ONE THING I'D CHANGE IN SOCCER:

I am very big on the mental side of the game since these skills directly translate to relationships and life outside of soccer.  For too long the prevailing opinion has been that being mentally tough is directly correlated to hard work and "pushing through" issues. It frustrates me when so many youth athletes are struggling with mental blocks, overcompetitiveness, and/or the fear of making mistakes/failing. I coach with the intention to empower my athletes to have the courage to make mistakes and understand that it is these mistakes and failures that give you the roadmap to success in soccer, in school, and in life.
